Christian online dating etiquette

That would be awesome, but it’s not always realistic. If you are a Christian, God isn’t a piece of your pie. Why date someone who doesn’t even have God as a piece of the pie? Pull over at the closest gas station and decide what you want in a future spouse. Your list is designed to give you a framework for dating, not be a checklist for it. Your heart and the holiness of marriage are too important to flippantly give away because you are frustrated, impatient, or settling. Despite being more popular than ever, online dating still remains a potential minefield for social etiquette and self-esteem.One of the more difficult issues that people frequently wrestle with is: what are the rules when it comes to interacting with a match online, before you’re in a relationship? Is it OK to track them down on Facebook before you’ve met? Is Googling them an invasion of privacy or simply a way of doing your due diligence before you meet? It also reduces the need to choose between meaningful in a region where pickings are slim, and work that may be further from one's calling in a more populated area. Online dating doesn't correct the well-documented imbalance of devout Christian women (abundant supply) to like-hearted men (a paucity), but it at least widens the net for Christians seeking partners.Fortunately, a number of Christian dating services, like e Harmony and Christian Cafe take care of this potential problem by providing “inhouse” email and messaging systems for members to use. And remember the goal is to attract a potential soulmate, not repel them. Email Etiquette Tip #3: Have Something to Say Whether you are meeting face to face or through email, having good conversation starter skills will help you connect with the other person, while helping you ascertain whether they are a match for you as well.

When you’re meeting someone in person, it’s easy enough to deliberately ignore the fact that they’re probably seeing other people.

Dating with a trajectory towards marriage means dating with a purpose.

It means dating someone who meets the values and goals you have for a future spouse (more on that later).

Casual or purposeless dating has no benefit for Christians. We are designed to know why we do stuff and where we are going. Now, please, please, please don’t be a freakish weirdo. It involves sharing personal struggles and vulnerability. If you believe God is preparing you for foreign missions, is it important the person you marry shares this passion? If you love the Cowboys and your future spouse loves the Packers, is it important to work through this before marriage?

Dating with a trajectory towards marriage doesn’t mean you only date one person ever. So, if you choose not to get coffee or watch a movie with the opposite sex, then whatever. The ultimate purpose of marriage is sanctification (becoming like God). If you have no idea what values are important to you in a future spouse, exit the road to marriage at the next off ramp.
